This applies to many things
and pointless worry is an easy one to spot.
In others.
For ourselves, it is often hard to tell
the real
(that we will live our lives and never win the Nobel prize - disappointing our mothers)
from
the imagined
(that everyone, whether we know them or not,
thinks we are stupid, socially incompetent, and
a bad person because we have disappointed our mothers so.)
